    Thank you for your support

We came of age this year! And as was appropriate for our 21st year we had a record number of 61 teams in action at Marlborough Golf Course, allowing us to hand over a cheque for more than £21,000 to The Injured Jockeys Fund.

So thanks to everyone who helped make it such a worthwhile and memorable day; whether it was by entering teams, sponsorship, giving prizes or with donations. I really am grateful to you all for your support in these difficult times.

Particularly, I must thank my small band of volunteers who helped in the planning and on the day: Bryan Mathieson (general but much appreciated dogsbody), Cherry Ludley and her daughter Julie, Charlie Fawcus (starter), Barrie Reardon Smith (who manned the desk) and Les Trute, Marlborough's general manager.

In addition those who, on the day, worked so hard to help make it such a success – Pete Carter (putting), The Cheese Rollers (half-way house), Lisa Ward (the raffle) and of course Lady Oaksey and Claire with their goody bags.

Les's green keepers ensured that the course was in great condition for the day with the greens in particular, receiving praise from every quarter. His clubhouse colleagues received their plaudits, too.

I'm beginning to think that someone up there must like us, because although it was blustery, the rain stayed away. Scores covered the usual golf-day spectrum from marvellous to miserable, but all in a good cause.

We had our usual galaxy of racing stars, with the winners on the day headed by the lean and hungry George Baker, whose team won an overnight stay including dinner, and two rounds of golf at the luxurious Stapleford Park Golf Spa, Leicestershire. This wonderful prize was generously sponsored by

He was followed home in the first five places by teams headed by other familiar racing names: Kieren Fallon, Sam Sangster, Richard Hughes, and Graham Bradley.

The generosity of supporters enabled awards for the leading 20 teams; with many others going home with vouchers or prizes. Thanks to everyone. Until next year. Same time, same place.
